The European Commission appointed Jean-Pierre Bourguignon as interim President of the European Research Council (ERC). Professor Bourguignon’s position, starting from July 27, will end as soon as the new President is chosen and appointed.
After driving the ERC from 2014 to 2019, the reconfirmation of Jean-Pierre Bourguignon comes at a crucial time when strong leadership is needed for the ERC, with the budget negotiations underway and the imminent transition to Horizon Europe, the new framework program for research and innovation.
