Public consultation on the demographic aging of European society

The European Commission has presented a Green Paper on demographic aging, inviting citizens to participate in a public consultation on the challenges and opportunities associated with this phenomenon. The Green Paper frames the debate, describing the effects that this demographic trend will have on Europe’s economy, society and policies, highlighting the questions to be asked. The document considers the universal impact of the aging of society on all generations and at all stages of life, noting the importance of finding the right balance between sustainable solutions for social protection schemes and strengthening intergenerational solidarity. The public consultation is open to all citizens and interested organizations until April 21, 2021. The results will help establish what support people and the communities in which they live need and the possible policy responses with which to support Member States in the initiatives undertaken in response to demographic aging.
