L’Autorità europea per la sicurezza alimentare (EFSA) fornisce consulenze scientifiche indipendenti sui rischi connessi all’alimentazione.
Pubblica pareri sui rischi alimentari attuali ed emergenti che confluiscono nella legislazione, nelle regolamentazioni e nelle strategie politiche europee, aiutando così a proteggere i consumatori dai rischi della catena alimentare. Le sue attività comprendono i seguenti settori:
- la sicurezza dei generi alimentari e dei mangimi
- l’alimentazione
- la salute e il benessere degli animali
- la protezione delle piante
- la salute delle piante.
Tra i compiti dell’EFSA rientrano:
- raccogliere dati e conoscenze scientifici
- fornire consulenze scientifiche indipendenti e aggiornate su questioni riguardanti la sicurezza alimentare
- informare il pubblico sulle attività scientifiche svolte
- cooperare con i paesi dell’UE, gli organismi internazionali e altri soggetti interessati
- rafforzare la fiducia nel sistema dell’UE di protezione della sicurezza alimentare fornendo consulenze affidabili.
