Research group UniBs-Spedali Civili-Harvard identifies the genetic defect of a new form of primitive immunodeficiency

A scientific paper has been published in the prestigious American journal “Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology” in which the genetic defect of a new form of primitive immunodeficiency has been identified. It is a research work that is the result of a collaboration between the Pediatric Clinic-Institute of Molecular Medicine A. Nocivelli University and ASST Spedali Civili of Brescia and the Children’s Hospital of Harvard University in Boston (Prof. Raif Geha). The project, coordinated by prof. Alessandro Plebani, Professor of Pediatrics in our University, was also supported by the C. Golgi Foundation and the Comunità Bresciana Foundation.

“It is an important scientific discovery, which allows on the one hand to better understand the ways in which the immune system defends us from infections, and the other, following the identification of the genetic defect, to develop more effective and targeted therapeutic strategies ” explained Prof. Plebani. A discovery that “also testifies the successful collaboration and interaction between the University of Brescia, ASST Spedali Civili of Brescia and private institutions”.
