Following the agreement between the European Parliament and the Council on the EU 2019 budget, the European Commission proposes to add 100 million euros to the financing of EU flagship programs: Horizon 2020 and Erasmus +.
These additional funds will help strengthen the EU response to key challenges such as climate change and further adapt the education sector to the needs of the labor market.
Of the additional 100 million euros, 80 million are earmarked for climate research under Horizon 2020, the EU’s research and innovation program. This money will contribute to the ambitious goal of allocating 35% of Horizon’s budget to climate research.
The remaining € 20 million will support the EU program for education, training, youth and sport in Europe.
The proposal now requires the approval of the European Parliament and the Council.
