John Templeton Foundation – Small and large grants

The John Templeton Foundation published two calls:

  • Small Grants are defined as requests for $234,800 (USD) or less. The threshold for small grants was established by the Foundation’s Charter and is adjusted periodically for inflation.
  • Large Grants are defined as requests for more than $234,800 (USD).

Grant consideration begins with an initial Online Funding Inquiry (OFI) and, if invited, a detailed Full Proposal.

The Full Proposal stage for small grants is not governed by any specific calendar. Instead, staff will invite Full Proposals with customized due dates that are influenced by the project’s anticipated start date, the internal workload of staff, and budget considerations.

The Foundation has established several major Funding Areas.

The grant duration is often up to three years. In rare instances the Foundation may support a project for up to five years. The Foundation will not fund any project for more than five years.

The Foundation allows for an overhead/indirect cost component within the budget, which is no more than 15%. The overhead/indirect cost should be included in your Request Amount.

Deadline for submission: 16th August 2019.
