In view of the determination of the European Union financial framework for the new Horizon Europe Framework Program for Research and Innovation, as part of the negotiation on the 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework, a vast representation of the Italian sector system has agreed, within GIURI (Informal Group of Italian Representative Offices for Research and Innovation in Brussels), on the importance of promoting an ambitious R&I budget that is up to European challenges.
Given the central role that R&I plays for growth and competitiveness, European institutions are invited to put action on research and innovation at the center of the future EU policy agenda. In this sense, it is crucial to support a financial envelope for Horizon Europe of at least 120 billion euros, in line with the position already expressed by the European Parliament. Investments in Research and Innovation (R&I) are a factor of economic growth, productivity and job creation. Engaging public resources in R&I means strengthening the scientific and technological bases of our country and Europe and promoting its global competitiveness.
The European Framework Program represents for Italy an important tool to enhance the excellence of Italian research in the European context and internationally, to strengthen the country’s wealth of skills and the innovation capacity of the business system; it is – finally – to stimulate the development of policies and priorities at national level.
Therefore, the Italian R&I community is ready to support this call with determination so that Italy can play a decisive role in defining an appropriate financial framework for Horizon Europe, strongly believing in the prospects for growth and prosperity that are guaranteed by the new Framework Program .
