Cariplo-Telethon Alliance – Joint Call for Applications 2025

Fondazione Cariplo (FC) and Fondazione Telethon (FT) made an alliance to foster basic research to support projects focused on unknown aspects of rare diseases.

This call is in support of basic research projects focusing on the study of genes/gene families, MRNAs and proteins whose function is unknown in rare diseases of genetic (both monogenic and  polygenic) and non – genetic origin.

For this Call, research projects can be submitted as:

PILOT APPLICATION: one-year research projects with the potential to generate data and/or tools to elucidate a role for Tdark(s) associated with rare diseases. Preliminary data are not mandatory, however, if any, they are encouraged to support rationale and feasibility of the research project. Only single-center proposals are admitted.

FULL APPLICATION: up to two-years research projects with a solid background. Preliminary data are mandatory. Both single- and bi-center proposals are admitted.

 

Only research proposals submitted by investigators working either in public or private Italian non-profit  research Institutions are eligible.

Applicants (Lead and Partners) can apply only to one type of Application of the FC-FT Joint Call, with one research project.

For Pilot Applications, the maximum total budget allowed for each research project is 50,000 €, and the duration of the proposed project is 1 year. A maximum of six-month no-cost extension is allowed, upon request.

For Full Applications, the maximum total budget allowed for each research project is 250,000 €, and the duration of the proposed project is 2 years. A maximum of 1-year no-cost extension is allowed, upon request.

For Full Applications, Applicants are allowed to ask for a salary of up to 50% of the direct cost of the total budget.

The Host Institution will have to approve the Application, within the online platform before  submission, declaring that the Lead Applicant is authorized to submit such Application on its  behalf.

The eligible projects will undergo the following peer review evaluation steps:

  • Phase I (If needed): Triage
  • Phase II: Full Review
  • Phase III: Study Section
